The Joy of Being Creative

“Art is life, life is art!” - Keith Haring

I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1950’s. My childhood was wonderful because I was born at a time when the street lights coming on meant it was time to go home. I loved the outdoors and spent my days exploring.  We built tree forts, rode bikes and most days never saw our families until dinnertime. If for some reason we had to be inside, you would find me drawing or coloring. Keeping me entertained was as simple as handing me a pencil and a sheet of paper or a new box of Crayolas.

As a young adult, I left Ohio for California with high school friends. We headed to Los Angeles, where I attended Los Angeles City College, UCLA  and Otis Art Institute. Art has always been my main creative outlet, though photography was my focus early on. I later owned a graphic design studio for many years but painted in my spare time. Originally, my focus was on portraiture. I moved to Northern California and lived outside San Francisco for the last 20 years of my working life. A summer vacation suggestion from my daughter, brought me to Florida’s Forgotten Coast and eventually, seeking  an art community to retire to, discovered Fairhope, Alabama.

In Fairhope, with local white sand beaches, beautiful bay and magnificent trees, I found inspiration. I joined the local art center and discovered Plein Air and painting “ from life.” I love color as you will see in my work! I started Fairhope Plein Air Artists a group of over 300 people who paint weekly, attempting to complete a painting on location in two of three hours. I have participated in local area art events and my work has been shown at the Eastern Shore Art Center, the Mobile Arts Council and at Dauphin Island Art Gallery. I am also an associate member of the American Impressionists Society. I have created this site in an attempt to reach a larger audience.
